Unwell on the island?
Here’s what to do.
A calm, practical starting point for tourists and short-stay visitors in Malta.
1. In an emergency, call 112
Free, 24 hours a day. Use it for breathing difficulty, chest pain, stroke symptoms, collapse, serious injury or severe allergic reactions. Emergency guidance.
2. For minor problems, ask a pharmacist
Pharmacists can advise on colds, stomach upsets, sunburn and bites. Some medicines may need a prescription in Malta.
3. To see a doctor
Visitors often choose a private GP for speed and convenience; EHIC/GHIC holders can access medically necessary state care. An online consultation may suit if you would rather not travel.
4. Know your cover
The EHIC does not cover private treatment or repatriation and does not replace travel insurance. Keep receipts and reports for claims.
